There is something romantic about the city. Maybe it’s the exciting surroundings and the hustle and bustle, which all seem to pause and fade away when you’re celebrating love. That’s exactly what Alex and Joe accomplished with their wedding in Boston, Massachusetts, which I was lucky enough to photograph in October!
A Sophisticated Boston Wedding
The couple was planning a large wedding, and both love Boston, so they chose the majestic Cathedral of the Holy Cross for their ceremony and the Boston Park Plaza for their reception. Alex is from Chicago, and Joe is from New York, so they had friends and family traveling in from all over.
Alex incorporated a rich fall color palette, with her bridesmaids donning dusty blue and bouquets featuring warm burgundy, orange, and gold flowers.
The Perfect Pair
Alex and Joe met at Notre Dame, where they bonded over their love for college sports, traveling, and fine food and wine. They make it a point to try new cuisine and visit the finest vineyards wherever they travel.
Popping the Question Across the Pond
Joe proposed to Alex while they were visiting London. As a token of their magical trip, they bought an expensive wine on their way home—which they enjoyed during their engagement photos!
One Big Day, Many Special Moments
On their wedding day, Joe surprised Alex with an extraordinary gift. After reading the beautiful message he wrote, she opened the box to find their favorite bottle of red! The hunt for this special bottle took Joe all over the map, but he managed to find it! This was such a sentimental moment, and I feel honored to have captured it.
We took their first look photos in adorable Statler Park, right across from the Boston Park Plaza. These shots were so memorable and sweet—you could see and feel the love and joy radiating from both of them!
Next, we headed over to the Boston Public Garden for more photos before the church ceremony. Just like everything in the world right now, there were a few curve balls thrown our way (the Boston Marathon was held the Monday after their wedding!). You can only imagine how crowded the city was, but we navigated through the chaos and crowds and managed to capture some stunning moments.
Then came time for the I dos! Alex and Joe’s heartwarming ceremony was held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross Church. The priest who married them was a childhood friend of Joe and his family, so of course, there were many jokes and happy tears shared by the crowd.
After a beautiful Catholic wedding and Mass, we returned to the Boston Park Plaza for the reception. Everyone enjoyed delicious food, then Joe and Alex had a blast dancing the night away with their beloved family and friends.
A Dreamy Destination Wedding
When I met Alex and Joe, I knew they were the perfect couple for me. Like the many other wonderful couples I’ve photographed, they are sweet, generous, and kind. They handled planning a “destination” wedding like no other, especially considering the challenges COVID has posed. Everything went off without a hitch—except the one hitch that matters. Kudos to you both!
