Glamorous Seaside Wedding in Newport, RI

For their August wedding in Newport, RI, Melanie and Derek created the perfect balance of elegance and fun. But what made the day most memorable was their nearly palpable love for each other.

Flawless Belle Mer Nuptials

Between the sparkling water, salty air, and stunning sunsets, Belle Mer by Longwood Venues offers a glamorous seaside venue right on Narragansett Bay. The spot perfectly complemented Melanie and Derek’s impeccable style, evident from her Jimmy Choos and his Christian Louboutin. They both looked amazing from head to toe!

Melanie’s family owns a home in Portsmouth, right outside of Newport, which made the spot extra special to them. She and her bridesmaids got ready at the house, enjoying a few laughs, hugs, and (happy) tears along the way.

The couple also did their first look at the beach house, where Melanie’s dad even lit off a canon!

Derek and Melanie wanted a mix of historic land and water, so we stuck out the 98-degree weather to shoot their formal photos at The Elms for a classic backdrop.

Next, we headed to Belle Mer for the sunny ceremony and reception.

A Family Affair

From the moment I met them, I could tell there was something unique about Melanie and Derek’s love.

It’s clear their big hearts extend to those around them. The couple was all about their family and friends, telling me how they spend much of their free time with them. As die-hard Buffalo Bills fans who love to laugh, Derek and Melanie had a magnetic charm about them.

It’s so special that even on their wedding day, you could feel their connection with their bridal party and all of their family in the room.

A Special Spark

My favorite part of the day was the couple, of course! I’ve photographed many couples and weddings and while they all mean a lot to me, Melanie and Derek’s day felt just right. We were the perfect fit.

I woke up the morning of their wedding day and I was so eager to see Melanie and her ladies at her parents’ house. When you build a friendship with clients from the beginning, it doesn’t feel like work—it feels like you’re hanging with friends.
